Celebrate Labor Day in Atlanta


Labor Day is quickly approaching and once again Atlanta is the place to be for the holiday weekend. There’s truly no other weekend like it – college football kicks off at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Dragon Con characters take over downtown, and a countless number of festivals and celebrations fill city streets. If you want to join in on the fun, check out my list below for the top events taking place around Metro Atlanta in honor of the holiday. Or, if you prefer to lay low for the weekend, take note of the event locations so you can avoid traffic delays. Happy Labor Day! 

Art in the Park: Marietta’s Art in the Park will run from 10 am – 5 pm Saturday, September 4th through Monday, September 6th.

Atlanta Jazz Festival: Regarded as one of the country’s best and largest jazz festivals, the Atlanta Jazz festival will feature show-stopping performances on Saturday, September 4th and Sunday, September 6th in Piedmont Park.
 
Big Peach Sizzler: Atlanta’s traditional Labor Day 5k and 10k will take place on Monday, September 6th. The 5k starts at 7 am at the Brookhaven Marta Station and the 10k starts at the Chamblee Station at 7:30 am. Plus there will be a virtual 5k and a hybrid 15k available as well!

Dragon Con: A four day event, Dragon Con will be held Thursday, September 2nd through Monday, September6th. To limit the spread of Covid-19, Dragon Con has put in place restrictions and requirements for all attendees. Learn more here.

Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game: There will be two Chick-fil-A Kickoff games taking place this year at the Mercedes-Benz stadium. First, Miami will face Alabama at 3:30 pm on Saturday, September 4th. Then, Ole Miss will take on Louisville at 8 p.m. on Monday, September 6th.
 
Sky High Hot Air Balloon Festival: If you want to get out of Atlanta this weekend, head to Callaway Gardens for their annual hot air balloon festival. Located in Pine Mountain, the festivities take place Friday, September 3rd through Sunday, September 5th.
 
Stone Mountain Labor Day Weekend: Stone Mountain will celebrate the Labor Day weekend with extended firework displays after the park’s laser shows on Saturday, September 4th,  Sunday, September 5th, and Monday, September 6th.

TinyCON: On Saturday, September 4th and Sunday, September 5th, The Children’s Museum of Atlanta turns into TinyCON – two days of  “fantasy, science fiction, comics, gaming and technology…just for kids!”  Kids will train like Jedi, create their own fizzy potions and wands, decorate wings, make Minecraft art, hunt for Pokémon, and more!
